Gay McKeon took an interest in uilleann piping in the 1960's under the tutelage of Leo Rowsome who had a profound influence on Gay’s playing, as did the other musicians who taught at and visited the Pipers Club including uilleann pipers Tommy Reck, Seán Seery and Willie Clancy.
Gay has recorded on numerous compilation albums and has also produced a number of recordings and DVDs of Uilleann piping for other artists. Since the mid 1970's Gay has toured and broadcast extensively as a soloist. Gay has also taught the uilleann pipes at major summer schools and music festivals and he has performed on three volumes of the NPU tutor series The Art of Uilleann Piping. He is now CEO of the Na Piobairí Uilleann. Back to artists list
