
Considered to be one of the more influential people in the renaissance of Irish music since the '70's, Dónal Lunny has been involved in Irish music all of his life. Born in Tullamore, he grew up in Newbridge, Co. Kildare and studied graphic design in the National College of Art and Design. He was the founding member of several important bands - Planxty, Bothy Band, Moving Hearts - and he has produced some of the most important albums of the traditional music revival since the '70's. He has developed a unique and highly influential accompaniment style on the bouzouki, combining powerful modal chords with intricate counterpoint. He has written music for many films and theatre productions. He received an Honorary Doctorate in Music from Trinity College Dublin in 2008, and is a member of Aosdána, Ireland's state sponsored body of elite artists. Back to artists list
